Definition of Sunnah

Shari'ah which has been perfect this is the sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam in general meaning. The Sunnah itself, divided into four definitions:

First
In fact, everything contained in the Book (Al-Quran-pen) and Sunnah (Hadith Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) is the sunnah of the Prophet sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam. He is a road taken by the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam. Among examples of this definition is the word he sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam,

"Those who refuse my sunnah then he is not a part of me." (Bukhari [5063] and Muslim [1401])

Second
Sunnah which means "al-hadith". That is, if coupled with "Al-Book." Among the examples is the word of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam,

"O mankind, indeed have I left for you something if you stick with it then you you will not be lost forever: (It is) the Qur'aan and the Sunnah of His Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam."
Also the word he sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam,

"Verily I have left two things for you so that you will not be lost forever after hold fast to two things: (that) God's Book and my sunnah."

The second hadith is narrated by al-Hakim in his Mustadrak (I/93).

Among the forms of the word "sunna" which means "al-hadith" is the word of some scholars in mentioning a few problems, "And this is a problem that based on the argument of the Book, as-Sunna, and consensus' of the scholars."

Third
Sunnah also can be defined as an opponent of heresy. Among the examples of its use are the words of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam in the hadith' Irbadh bin Sariyah,

"Verily, whosoever of you are still alive (after my death-pen), will undoubtedly see many disputes. So, hold you Be firm with my sunnah and Sunnah khulafa'ur Rasyidin who obtain guidance and knowledge. Gigitlah sunnah with your molar teeth, and beware the new contemplates the made-up. Indeed, each new case is made-up innovation, and every innovation is heresy! "(Hadith was issued by Abu Daud [4607] - pronunciation of this hadith, he belongs, issued by At-Tirmidhi [ 2676] and Ibn Majah [43-44]; At-Tirmidhi said, "Salmaan")

Among the examples of application of the term "Sunna" which means "the opposite of heresy" is the most ancient hadith scholars who called the books of their work in the field of faith with the name "As-Sunnah", such as As-Sunnah by Muhammad bin Nasir Al -Marwazii, As-Sunnah of Ibn Abii 'Aashim, As-Sunnah by Al-Laalikaa `i, and in others. In the Book of Sunan Abu Daud's work also contained the chapter titled "As-Sunnah" which contains many hadith about Aqeedah.

Fourth
Sunnah also can mean "mandub" and "mustahab", ie everything that was ordered in the form of suggestions, not in the form pewajiban. This definition is used by a jurist. Among the examples is the word of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam,

"Were it not for fear of aggravating my people, surely will I command them to do want to perform Miswak every prayer." (Reported by Al-Bukhari [887] and Muslim [252])

Indeed using siwak command to be on the degree of the recommendation, and it is solely because the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam would incriminate people worried he sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam when set it as an obligation.
