The enemies of Islam has always tried to associate the spread Islam with sword. Doubtful (confusion) is inherited by people Nashara until today. It is not strange to them, even they have inherited contemplates the larger (lies) than this. They bequeath contemplates the contrary to nature, reason, and the agreement of all shari'ah / religion, such as their assumption that God Almighty is one of the trinity, that al-Masih 'Isa was crucified upon whom be peace, and that he was the son of Allah Azza wa Jalla. Most Holy and Almighty God Almighty of what they say.
Religion Islam is the Shari'ah of Allah Almighty that He has sent down with His knowledge, as his word:
"Verily We have brought a book (Quran) to those which we have explained on the basis of knowledge of us, a guidance and mercy for the believers." [Al-A'raf / 7: 52]
If the religion of God Almighty has been explained on the basis of his knowledge, then it must be accepted by a straight fithrah. As for the sword, we only use it if there are people who prevent us from delivering the Islamic religion. Therefore, we are combating infidels simply because of its opposition, not because of their disbelief. we do not (should) also killed the women, children, and parents-parents (although they are infidels-ed).
About lafadz hadith of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam who lean (on the stick or arc) during Friday sermon, Imam Ibn Qayyim rahimahullah (d. 751 AH) said: "It is not true that he sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam lean with a sword. Many ignorant people think that he sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam lean with a sword in the pulpit as a sign that Islam is only an upright with a sword. It is stupidity when reviewed daridari two sides: First: that's right, the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam lean on the stick or arc. Second: this is only an upright religion by revelation, as for the sword, only to destroy the people astray and idolaters. And the city of the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, where he berkhutbah in the city, actually conquered by the Qur'an, not conquered by the sword ". [Book Zâdul Ma'ad 1:190]
Rahimahullah Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (d. 728 H) explained that the religious belief of Islam is the religion of the upright with a sword, not by science, is the opinion of those who Nashara. Rahimahullah He said: "Indeed many people of the Book think that (the Prophet) Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam and his people only to establish the religion of Islam with the sword, not with instructions, science, and the verses (miracle-miracle / the verses of Quran). " So every time Muslims challenging hujjah with science and debate, there is no answer for the people of Islam except the sword ". This is the assumption they are lying and this supposition also the result of their beliefs about the destruction of Islam, that Islam is not religion a messenger of Allah Almighty, but religion was a king who upheld by the sword ". 
Then he rahimahullah denied them: "Verily, including cases that have known, that the sword was the sword-especially the Muslims and people of the Book-follow science and hujjah (arguments). While the swords of the polytheists to follow the thoughts and beliefs. (Using) the sword is the sort of practice, while practice was forever follow the science and thought. So then, explain the Islamic religion with science and that all the menyelisihi hujjah Islam is apostasy and ignorance, is to strengthen the foundation of Islamic religion, and away from the foundation of all other religions, where the followers of religions other than Islam fought because of their religion The ". 
Rahimahullah Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah also said: "It is known that Allaah has promised the victory of Islam over all other religions, with science and hujjah victory, and victory swords and spears. Allah Almighty says:
"He is the Almighty who sent His messenger with the guidance and the true religion that He may win it over all religions even though the idolaters hate". [Ash-Shaff / 61:9]
The scholars' have made it clear that the victory of Islam is a religion with science and hujjah and with sword and spear, and the wording Dhuhr (victory) includes both. Since the victory of al-Huda (guidance) is with the knowledge and information, while the victory of deen (religion) is by the hand and practice. God Almighty sent His Messenger (Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) with guidance and the religion of truth, that He may win it over all religion. It has been understood that the victory of Islam is with science and explanations, before his victory with his hands and warfare. He sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam stayed in Makkah for 13 years show (won) of Islam with the science, explanations, verses, and real evidence, without a sword, so that immigrants and Ansar believe he sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam with voluntary and sincerity. As has been clear to them the verses of the real, explanations, and miracles-miracles of Allah Almighty, he also appeared (won) this religion with the sword. Therefore, jihad against unbelievers with the sword, either by starting the (offensive) or defending themselves (defensive), is obligatory upon us. Explaining Islam and mendakwahkannya, either by initiating or defending themselves from those who censure him, is also obligatory, even (its liabilities) are more major and better ". 
Shari'ah of Jihad and its position 
The obligation of jihad in the previous shari'ah different to the obligation of Jihad in Shari'ah (Islamic). We find that jihad does not disyari'atkan to some Apostles, and was required to some others to defend themselves, then they are required to partially ibtidâ jihad '(offensive).
In Islamic law, all types of jihad that was collected. The Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam and his companions never instructed to refrain from war, then commanded the battle lists' (defending himself), then when the strength of Islam has been established, they were ordered ibtida war' (offensive, attacking the people who obstruct syiar Islam) . Please note, that jihad is not the pillars of Islam and jihad is commanded by certain conditions. Jihad is the peak height of Islamic teachings.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy says: "Verily, the Muslims first, before migrated and migrated in the early days, prohibited from starting wars. At that time forbidden to kill the unbelievers and that includes killing the soul without haq. As Allah Almighty:

Hence, the verse of Quran which was first revealed about the permissibility to war was the word of God Almighty:
"It has been allowed (to fight) for those who fought, because the fact they have been persecuted. and Allah Almighty, Almighty really help them. [Al-Hajj / 22:39]
This includes general knowledge possessed by people who know sirah (history) Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam. No hidden for one of them, that he sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam before hijra and briefly after the pilgrimage, it is forbidden to start killing and fighting (the unbelievers). Therefore, when people who have membai'at Ansar he on the night of al-'Aqabah, requested permission to attack the people who are in Mina, he sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam said to them: "I am not yet at war diidzinkan" . Because at that time he sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam is in the position of the Prophets who do not commanded the war, like Noah, Hud, Salih, Abraham, and Jesus, even as the majority of the Prophets in addition to the Prophets of Bani Israel. Rahimahullah Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah also said: "God k has sent a prophet to all people, as his word:
"Verily We have sent you with the truth as a bearer of glad tidings and a warner. and no one was available to him umatpun but a warner ". [Fathir / 35:24]
His words also:
"And verily We sent Apostles in every nation (proclaiming):" Worship Allaah (alone), and depart from that Evil. "[An-Nahl / 16:36]
His words also:
".... Surely you will truly believe in him and help him ... .. ". [Ali-'Imrân / 3:81]
Relief accompanied by faith in Him, that's jihad. Meanwhile, Noah, Hud, and the other Apostles as they were instructed not jihad. But Moses and the Israelites are commanded jihad ". 
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah may Allaah have mercy says: "All people, not everyone of them were ordered to do all things Ma'ruf, nor is banned from all things unjust, and they are not air-jihad over this. As for those who were jihad, such as the Children of Israel, then most of their jihad is to drive their enemies from the earth, as people who attack and do dzalim was fought. Not for mendakwahi the people who fought, nor to instruct them that Ma'ruf case and prohibit them from cases of wrongdoing. As Moses said to his people upon whom be peace:
"O my people, go to the holy land (Palestine) which Allah has prescribed for you , and do not run backward (for fear of the enemy), then you become the losers.
They said: O Moses, Surely in that country there are people who valor, Verily We are never going to enter before they are out of it. If they are out of it, surely we will enter it. "[Al-Maidah / 5: 21-22]
Until word of God Almighty:
"They said: O Moses, upon whom be peace, we all will not enter into her once for ever, while they are inside, because it Go with your Lord, and fight ye two, is We just sit here waiting for it" [al-Maidah / 5:24]
Allah Almighty also says:
"Have you not leaders Children of Israel after Moses upon whom be peace, That when they said unto them a prophet:" Pick for us a king so we fight (under his leadership) in the way of Allah Almighty. " Their Prophet said: "Maybe once, if you will be required to fight, you will not fight." they replied: "Why We do not want to fight in the way of God, And We have indeed evicted from their homes and our children." [al-Baqarah / 2:246]
Then they mention the cause of war, that they had been expelled from villages and their children. Nevertheless, they turn away from the obligations that have been ordered to them. Therefore, ghanîmah not lawful for them and they were not allowed intercourse with the slaves (women) ". 
Therefore Allah Almighty punish the Jews who turned away from fighting the people who zhalim with confusion for 40 years. And wisdom that so they were dead, then they are replaced by another generation who will carry out obedience to Allaah and jihad in the way of Allah Almighty, not ruled by cowardice, fear and complaining.
Rahimahullah Imam Ibn al-Qayyim said: "There is no prophet after Prophet Dawud bearing the sword upon whom be peace then the people into submission to him. and no Shari'ah accompanied with glory, but the Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam, as the word he sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam:
نصرت بالرعب مسيرة شهر
"I helped with the fear the enemy as far as trips a month". [HR.Bukhâri 335; and Muslims 521]
In explaining the wisdom of God Almighty, which forbids the entry of the Children of Israel who turned away (from the command jihad) of the city 'Amaliqah for 40 years and attributing the confusion to them, Al-'Allâmah Abdurrahman as-Sa'di rahimahullah said: "The possibility of wisdom in the During this time, is that the majority of the people who pronounce the death sentence, because the phrase comes from the heart that does not have the patience and persistence. Even their hearts have been accustomed to slavery to their enemies, so it does not have the spirit to raise the degree to highness. And so was born a new generation educated their sense of power against the enemy and not be enslaved, and have no humiliation that blocks of happiness ". 
It should be noted that jihad is not mentioned in the hadiths about the pillars of Islam, pillars of faith, and its foundations.
Al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab, may Allaah have mercy said: Jihad is not mentioned in the hadeeth of Ibn 'Umar was , and jihad is the ultimate charity. In one history is mentioned, that is said to Ibn Umar: "What is jihad?" He replied: "Jihad is good, and the Prophet sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam was preach to us". (HR.Ahmad). In the hadith Mu'adh ibn Jabal radi 'anhu (the Prophet sallallaahu' alaihi wa sallam said): "The principal religion is Islam (syahâdatain-important life), its pillar is prayer, and the peak height is jihad." The peak height is something that most high, but excluding poles where religion is built on top of it. This is because the two sides:
First: that the jihad according to the majority of scholars 'legal jihad fardhu kifayah, not Fardhu' ain, in contrast to the pillars of Islam.
Second: that jihad is not continuously performed until the end of the period, even if the Prophet Jesus, upon whom be peace has been dropped, and the time it left no religion except Islam, then at that time the war ended and jihad is not required. In contrast to the pillars of Islam, are all mandatory for the believers to come God commands k while they (the group that helped by Allaah) remain on it . Allaah knows best. "
